Problem with windows giving too much reflection

Here's a tip if you are doing LED strip lighting... DO NOT attempt to create a light for each physical LED. That can quickly run into the hundreds to thousands. Instead you can either use the Panel light, or simply light the strip as a…

Also remember to purge the model in sketchup before rendering

Grouping and Components does not help Layering halps a lot - because if you turn off layers for various scenes, then we do not have to process them. Hiding things also helps And avoid unnecessarily complex geometry (such as a round table leg with…

Tips to increase efficiency when working in large and detailed Sketchup models?

I was wondering if anyone has any tips to maximize efficiency of the program when working with large and detailed projects. I am about to start a larger project that I plan to use a lot of lighting and detail. Does grouping or making geometry into components make it more efficient to render once the model gets more complex? Does hiding layers or groups that aren't going to be present in the rendering help? I am just now starting this project and I want to build my model according to what…See More

I set the glass to one and it took almost all of the reflection out. Thank-you!

I didn't have the same view as you had, but do see a lot of reflection in the glass, even though reflection is set to 0, and auto_reflection is off. I set the reflection on the window to 1 instead of 0 and got this: We'll look into this…

Sorry, I was trying to upload it in the wrong place. I sent it to you. Thank-you so much!

Could you try sending me the model again. I'd sure like to see it. It shouldn't be too big. Our Upload tab uses YouSendIt and allows up to a 2 Gigabyte file to be sent. I rarely see a .skp file larger than 120 Megabytes.

Is the window something other than clear glass? It it colored or grey?

Hmmm... that didn't work either. I even tried including trees to make some kind of back ground.

Try putting a lamp or a point light on the other side of the window and see what that does.

Thanks! I am unable to upload my model because the file is too big, but I turned the auto-reflection off and it's working much better for glass inside the room. The windows leading to the outside however are still reading like mirrors.

I assume that there is no reflection set on the glass: Do you have Auto-reflection turned on? Is there light on the other side of the glass? Is the sun or sky turned on? That might help. Otherwise, can you send me the model so I can see…

Problem with windows giving too much reflection

Every time I render my windows end up looking like mirrors. As a matter of fact any translucent material ends up just reading like a mirror. I didn't have this problem when I used the free trial version so I don't know what I am doing wrong. In my presentation the over reflective windows and glass were really confusing and distracting to the rest of the project. Please help me.  See More

Comfy Lounge

Model, A Comfy Lounge, by Surya Murali from 3D Warehouse. I added HDRi background, set wattage of interior lights, and added reflection to mirror, vase and floor. 124 passes in Packet Mode, 1 1/2 hours rendering time.
